Zorah

Zor´uh

A town (modern Sar´ah) located in the Valley of Sorek three miles northeast of Beth-shemesh and fifteen miles west of Jerusalem. The Danites were the first tribe to settle in the Zorah area (Josh 15:33; Josh 19:31); Manoah, the father of Samson, came from Zorah, and Samson was raised there (Judg 13:2; Judg 13:25). After the Danites migrated north, Zorah became Judahite, and King Rehoboam fortified Zorah and the surrounding towns. Upon return from Babylonian exile Jews settled again in Zorah.
