Ziklag

Zik´lag

A city in the Negeb, the wilderness area west and south of the Dead Sea, whose location cannot be determined with certainty. The city was given to David by the Philistine tyrant of Gath, Achish. It was David’s base for military operations for a year and four months (1Sam 27:5-12), and it was destroyed by the Amalekites at the time of Saul’s last stand against the Philistines (1Sam 30:1-19). It is listed in the ancestral holdings of both Judah (Josh 15:31; 1Sam 27:6) and Simeon (Josh 19:5; 1Chr 4:30).
