Tishbite

Tish´bit

An adjective applied six times in the Hebrew Bible to the prophet Elijah (1Kgs 17:1; 1Kgs 21:17; 1Kgs 21:28; 2Kgs 1:3; 2Kgs 1:8; 2Kgs 9:36). The LXX translators understood this to indicate that Elijah’s hometown was Tishbe, a city that has been identified with the site of Listib in the mountains of north Gilead.
