A class of Temple servitors known from the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles. (Ezra 8:20) says that they had been set apart by David “to attend the Levites.” Scholars are divided as to whether they were actually slaves, property of the Temple, or simply servitors like the Levites (1Chr 9:1-2).
