strangled animals


Animals the flesh of which could not be eaten because they were not slaughtered according to Jewish law, which calls for slitting the throat and draining the blood. This law also applied to meat eaten by Gentiles living among Jews (Lev 17:10-14). In (Acts 15:20), gentile Christians were enjoined not to eat meat from strangled animals, so that they could share table fellowship with Jewish Christians.
