Stepped ledges providing access up or down that are integrated into the construction of a building or other facility. Stairs were most common as a device for reaching the second floor or roof of a house. The Temple built by Solomon had stairs to both the second and third stories (1Kgs 6:8; Neh 3:15; Neh 9:4; Neh 12:37; Ezek 40:31; Ezek 40:34; Ezek 40:37; Ezek 41:7).
