smith


One who works metal. The first-named smith of the Bible is Tubal-cain, known traditionally as the father of metallurgy (Gen 4:22). Descriptions of the smith’s craft are found in (Isa 44:12). The Bible knows of smiths for silver (Judg 7:14; Acts 19:24), gold (Isa 40:19; Isa 41:7; Isa 46:6), iron (Isa 44:12), and bronze (1Kgs 7:14). A significantly large proportion of the exiles (one-tenth of all captives) were smiths (2Kgs 24:14; 2Kgs 24:16; Jer 24:1; Jer 29:2).
