Shuh-roo´huhn
An important stronghold in southwest Palestine. In (Josh 19:6) it appears in a list of cities allotted to the tribe of Simeon at the time of the Israelite conquest; parallel lists give its name as Shilhim (Josh 15:32) and Shaaraim (1Chr 4:31). Sharuhen was probably located about four miles southwest of modern Gaza.
