1 Circular rings attached to various furnishings of the tabernacle through which staves were placed in order to carry them during the wilderness journey: the Ark (Exod 25:12-15; Exod 37:3-4); the table (Exod 25:26-28; Exod 37:13-15); the altar of burnt offerings (Exod 27:4-7; Exod 38:5-7); and the altar of incense (Exod 30:4; Exod 37:27). Such rings were also used to secure the frames of the tabernacle (Exod 26:24-30; Exod 36:29-34). 2 Circular rings attached to the breastplate of the high priest that secured the ephod, a decorative linen garment (Exod 28:23-28). 3 Rings as jewelry either for adornment and worn on the fingers (Job 42:11; Jas 2:2), ears (Gen 35:4; Exod 32:2; Exod 32:3), or nose (Gen 24:47; Isa 3:21; Prov 11:22) or as a symbol of authority, i.e., as a signet ring of a king (Gen 41:42; Esth 3:10; Jer 22:24; Luke 15:22). Such rings were frequently used as official seals (Esth 8:8; Esth 8:10).
