Rezin

Ree´zin

1 The king of Damascus ca. 738–733 BCE. Rezin organized an anti-Assyrian coalition that included Damascus, Tyre, Philistia, and Israel; when King Ahaz of Judah refused to join, the allies seized part of his territory. Rezin’s attempt to take Jerusalem and depose Ahaz failed (Isa 7:1-10), however, and Assyria soon crushed the allies (2Kgs 16:5-9). 2 The ancestor of a group of Temple servants in the postexilic period (Ezra 2:48; Neh 7:50).
