A leather pouch in which money was carried (Prov 7:20; Hag 1:6; Luke 22:35-36). Jesus forbade his disciples to carry money in their purses as evidence of their trust that God would provide for them through the generosity of others (Matt 10:9). The Gospel of John reports that Judas Iscariot was in charge of the common funds used by Jesus and his disciples (John 12:6; John 13:29).
