man of lawlessness

An enigmatic phrase found in (2Thess 2:3. He appears to be a figure who will be manifested in the future and whose arrival will signify the culmination of all hostile forces that oppose the apostolic ministry of the church and, thus, of God. His appearance will climax the process the author of 2 Thessalonians refers to as “the mystery of rebellion” (2Thess 2:7). The main point of the writer is that since this moment has not yet arrived, those who argue that “the day of the Lord is already here” (2Thess 2:2) are in error.
