helmet


A leather or metal protective covering for the head worn by soldiers. The word used in the OT for “helmet” is of foreign origin, and foreigners attacking Israel are often reported as wearing helmets (1Sam 17:5; Goliath). Later, Israel’s armies were similarly equipped (2Chr 26:14). A helmet is worn by God in (Isa 59:17), and a helmet is part of the spiritual armor given to Christians in (1Thess 5:8; Eph 6:17).
