handkerchief

A small piece of cloth used primarily for wiping the face and hands. Other uses include storing money (Luke 19:20, NRSV: “piece of cloth”) and covering the face of a dead person (John 11:44; John 20:7). In a different vein, handkerchiefs that had come into contact with Paul were said to have had healing power (Acts 19:11-12).
