good Samaritan

The man who, by aiding a Jew who had been wounded by thieves, proved neighbor in Jesus’s famous parable (Luke 10:29-37). A “good Samaritan” would have been an anomaly for many Jews of Jesus’s day, because of the centuries-long mutual animosity between Jews and Samaritans.
