Geshem

Gesh´uhm

An Arab opponent of Nehemiah who ridiculed the plan to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls and subsequently plotted against him (Neh 2:19; Neh 6:1-9). We may assume that he was the ruler of the Persian province of Arabia, south of Judah. This position may explain his motivation to interfere in Judah’s domestic affairs.
