Gehazi

Gi-hay´ zi; Heb., “valley of vision”

The servant or younger associate of Elisha the prophet. In the story of the wealthy Shunammite woman (2Kgs 4:8-37), Gehazi is portrayed as Elisha’s faithful messenger and perhaps overzealous protector (v. 2). Some time later Gehazi is in conversation with the king of Israel when this same woman appears seeking recovery of her property after a sojourn in Philistia (2Kgs 8:1-6). In the story of Naaman (2Kgs 5) Gehazi is portrayed as greedy and deceitful and is cursed with Naaman’s leprosy by Elisha.
