Gath-rimmon

Gath-rim´uhn; Heb., “the wine press of Rimmon”

A city originally assigned to Dan, but later given to the Levites (Josh 19:45; Josh 21:24). In a parallel account it is listed as being given to the Levites from the tribe of Ephraim (1Chr 6:69). A second Gath-rimmon given to the Levites from the half-tribe of Manasseh is also recorded (Josh 21:25), but in the parallel account (1Chr 6:70) the city is called Bileam. There is probably only one Gath-rimmon and the confusion in the accounts is usually attributed by scholars to scribal errors. The city is thought to be located northeast of Joppa, although the exact site is unknown.
