Although Baal could simply mean “lord,” names that contained “Baal” were sometimes changed to avoid any association with the Canaanite fertility god of that name. 2 The father of Rezon, the ruler of Syria and enemy of David (1Kgs 11:23). 3 A Benjaminite commander of two hundred thousand bowmen under King Jehoshaphat (2Chr 17:17).
