coral

Saltwater submarine growth composed of the calcareous remains of anthozoan polyps. Pieces of coral were considered precious (Job 28:18). They were considered the epitome of the color red (Lam 4:7) and were important trade goods (Ezek 27:16). Found in both Mediterranean and Red Sea coastal waters, coral was a popular material for beads and various forms of jewelry.
