censer

A hand-sized vessel containing hot coals on which incense was sprinkled. Brass censers (NRSV: “firepans”) were used in the tabernacle (Exod 27:3) and in the First Temple (1Kgs 7:50), while gold censers were among the Temple vessels carried off to Babylon when Nebuchadnezzar overthrew Israel, burned the Temple, and carried the people into exile in Babylon (2Kgs 25:15).
