canopy

An open-sided cover giving overhead protection from sun or rain. A canopy stood before the porch pillars in Solomon’s Hall of Pillars (1Kgs 7:6), a canopy of wood will stand in front of the envisioned temple vestibule (Ezek 42:10), and a canopy will shield the throne of Nebuchadnezzar when he occupies Egypt (Jer 43:10). Metaphorically, darkness serves as the Lord’s canopy (1Sam 22:12), or thick clouds dark with water (Ps 18:11), and a canopy over all the Lord’s glory will provide shelter (Isa 4:5).
