bodyguard


A specially chosen personal protector, or troop of such protectors, usually an elite corps of a king’s military forces. Achish, the Philistine king, made David his bodyguard for life (1Sam 28:2). David appointed Benaiah to be in charge of his bodyguard (2Sam 23:23; 1Chr 11:25). Nebuzaradan was captain of the bodyguard of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar, who destroyed Jerusalem (2Kgs 25:8; Jer 52:12).
