Beth-zay´thuh; Heb., “house of olives”
A name appearing only in (John 5:2) (NRSV; some manuscripts read Bethesda, “house of mercy,” while others have Bethsaida, “house of the fisherman”). All seem to refer to a pool just north of the Temple in Jerusalem. It was here, according to (John 5:2-9), that Jesus healed the man who had been sick for thirty-eight years.
