Beth-jeshimoth

Beth-jes´uh-moth

A settlement east of the Jordan in the plains of Moab opposite Jericho, the area of one of the encampments of the Israelites (Num 33:49). It was captured by Joshua and assigned to the tribe of Reuben (Josh 12:3; Josh 13:20), although by the time of the exile it was again under Moabite control (Ezek 25:9). The site is usually identified as modern Tell el ‘Azeima, about two and a half miles northeast of the north end of the Dead Sea.
