Beracah

Bair´uh-kuh; Heb., “blessing” or “praise”

1 A kinsman of Saul from the tribe of Benjamin who joined David’s fighting men at Ziklag (1Chr 12:3). 2 A valley in central Judah near Tekoa. During the reign of Jehoshaphat an alliance was formed by Edom, Ammon, and Moab, and they invaded Judah. But, as promised by the prophet Jahaziel, the army was destroyed when they began fighting among themselves; the people “blessed” God for the victory, because of the spoils taken and the peace that would follow, and named the site accordingly (2Chr 20:26).
