Bebai

Bee´bi

A personal name appearing six times in biblical texts, all in Ezra and Nehemiah. The first identifies a family of 623 returnees from the Babylonian captivity (Ezra 2:11). Two references in (Ezra 8:11) pertain to Bebai’s son, Zechariah. (Ezra 10:28) specifies four additional descendants (Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai). (Neh 7:16) credits 628 returnees to the family, and (Neh 10:14) lists Bebai as a name on the sealed document of covenant renewal, possibly entered by one of the descendants. If the last reference is independent, two persons are thus named.
