battering ram


A war engine that usually consisted of a heavy wooden ramrod, probably metal tipped, suspended within a wooden tower in a fashion that allowed it to be worked back and forth. Biblical references to battering rams include possibly (2Sam 20:15), which speaks of Joab “battering” the walls of Abel of Beth-maacah. The prophecies of (Ezek 4:2); (Ezek 21:22); and (Ezek 26:9) depict the siege of Jerusalem and Tyre with a surrounding ramp topped with battering rams (Isa 22:5).
