Asa

Ay´suh

The fifth king of the Davidic dynasty. Asa ruled Judah for a comparatively long period, ca. 913–873 BCE. Continual border conflicts between Judah and the Northern Kingdom, Israel, caused Asa to call upon the help of Ben-hadad I, the king of Damascus. The book of Kings presents Asa as a strict worshiper of Yahweh who forbade the fertility cults of Asherah and Baal (1Kgs 15:9-24).
