1 A fortress on the Arnon River’s northern rim, the southern limit of Amorite (Deut 2:36), Reubenite-Gadite (Deut 3:12), Davidic (2Sam 24:5), and Syrian (2Kgs 10:33) activities in Transjordan. The last reference to Aroer identifies it as Moabite (Jer 48:19-20). 2 A town in southern Judah (1Sam 30:28), modern Khirbet Ar‘areh. 3 An Ammonite settlement near Rabbah (Josh 13:25).
