1 A town of Judah (Josh 15:52) near Hebron, most often identified as Khirbet er-Rabiyeh, southwest of Hebron. 2 Term presumably meaning an inhabitant of Arabia. It is applied to Geshem, who opposed rebuilding Jerusalem, in (Neh 2:19); (Neh 6:1). (Isa 13:20) uses the absence of Arab nomadic campsites as a symbol of desolation. Jeremiah refers to a nomad (Heb. ‘arab) waiting for lovers in the wilderness as a pejorative description of Judah’s infidelity to God and to its covenant obligations (Isa 3:2).
