apron

A minimal item of clothing, perhaps an undergarment, probably formed originally by wrapping material around the lower trunk. In the Eden story, the couple fashions such garments from fig leaves as the first human apparel (Gen 3:7). Elsewhere the term, sometimes rendered “girdle,” denotes a sash wrapped over the tunic or outer garment and sometimes serving a decorative as well as a functional purpose.
