Antipatris

An-tip´uh-tris

A town on the coastal plain along the principal international highway of Palestine, the Via Maris. The site has been identified with OT Aphek (Josh 12:18; 1Sam 4:1; 1Sam 29:1), where the Philistines were encamped when they captured the Ark of the Covenant. Here Paul stayed overnight during his trip from Jerusalem to Caesarea to stand trial before Felix (Acts 23:31).
