Annas

An´uhs

or Ananus, high priest, installed by Quirinius, from 6 to 15 CE, when he was deposed by Valerius Gratus. Five of his sons as well as his son-in-law Joseph Caiaphas attained the office of high priest. In (Luke 3:2) and (Acts 4:6), he is called “high priest” in deference to his former status.
