1 The son of Abigail, David’s half sister, and Jether (1Chr 2:17). He was the cousin of Joab and his successor as military commander in chief, despite his defection to the rebelling Absalom (2Sam 17:25; 2Sam 19:14). During the revolt of Sheba, he failed to take prompt action and was therefore murdered by Joab (2Sam 20:1-13). He may be the same person identified with Amasai, the leader of the thirty “mighty warriors” (1Chr 12:19). 2 The son of Haldai and a prince of Ephraim (2Chr 28:12) who helped the prisoners of Judah (2Chr 28:12-15).
