Uh-him´uh-lek; Heb., “my brother [or kin] is king”
1 The son of Ahitub and priest of Nob to whom David fled from the wrath of Saul (1Sam 21:1-15). Falling victim to David’s story of a secret mission from King Saul, Ahimelech provided David and his men with “holy bread” (Matt 12:3-4). He also gave to David the sword of Goliath, whom David had killed years earlier in the valley of Elah (1Sam 22:9-10). For so assisting David, Ahimelech and most of his family were killed by Doeg the Edomite at the command of Saul (2Sam 22:18-19). 2 A Hittite officer in the service of David (1Sam 26:6).
