towns

Settlements of small but indeterminate size. They could be walled with gates, as a city (1Sam 23:7; Prov 8:3), but they are also spoken of in parallel with villages (Matt 10:11). References to places called towns, like Tappuah (Josh 17:8), Bethlehem (Judg 17:8), Arimathea (Luke 23:51), or Ephraim (John 11:54), offer no clues as to size or condition to distinguish them from villages or cities.
