The large opposing digit on the hand. The right thumb, big toe, and right ear lobe were daubed with sacrificial blood in the priests’ ordination (Exod 29:20; Lev 8:23; Lev 8:24). The healed leper who is being cleansed is likewise daubed with blood and then oil on the same members (Lev 14:14; Lev 14:17; Lev 14:25; Lev 14:28). Loss of the toes and thumbs was humiliating and disabling (Judg 1:6-7).
