swaddling

The practice of wrapping newborn infants in strips of cloth to keep their limbs straight. (Ezek 16:4) indicates the procedure that was followed in the birth of a child: the umbilical cord was severed, and the infant was washed, rubbed with salt, and then wrapped in cloths. According to (Luke 2:7, Luke 2:12), Jesus was swaddled with bands of cloth after his birth.
