Ji-rah´mee-uhl; Heb., “may God have compassion”
1 The ancestor who gave his name to a group of non-Israelites, the Jerahmeelites, who lived in the extreme southern part of the land of Judah. David came into contact with them there after his flight from Saul (1Sam 27:10; 1Sam 30:29). 2 The son of Kish, and a Levite (1Chr 24:29). 3 One of the three men sent by the Judean king Jehoiakim to arrest Jeremiah and Baruch (Jer 36:26). Although Jerahmeel is called the “king’s son,” that may be an official title, and hence does not necessarily mean he was Jehoiakim’s son.
