Ji-hosh´uh-fat; Heb., “Yah[weh] establishes justice”; also Joshaphat

1 The son of Ahilud, “recorder” under David (2Sam 8:16; 2Sam 20:24; 1Chr 18:15) and Solomon (1Kgs 4:3). 2 The son of Paruah, an officer in Issachar under Solomon (1Kgs 4:17). 3 King of Judah (1Chr 3:10; Matt 1:8). He succeeded his father, Asa, on the throne (1Kgs 15:24; 1Kgs 22:41-46) and reigned twenty-five years, ca. 873–848 BCE. He is shown in (1Kgs 22) as the subordinate ally with the Israelite king Ahab (1Kgs 22:20; 2Chr 18; 2Chr 18:1-3). 4 The father of Jehu, king of Israel (2Kgs 9:2; 2Kgs 9:14), and son of Nimshi, elsewhere described as Jehu’s father (1Kgs 19:16; 2Kgs 9:20; 2Chr 22:7).
