He succeeded his father, Asa, on the throne (1Kgs 15:24; 1Kgs 22:41-46) and reigned twenty-five years, ca. 873–848 BCE. He is shown in (1Kgs 22) as the subordinate ally with the Israelite king Ahab (1Kgs 22:20; 2Chr 18; 2Chr 18:1-3). 4 The father of Jehu, king of Israel (2Kgs 9:2; 2Kgs 9:14), and son of Nimshi, elsewhere described as Jehu’s father (1Kgs 19:16; 2Kgs 9:20; 2Chr 22:7).
