Jehonadab

Ji-hoh´nuh-dab

The son of Rechab and spiritual father of the Rechabite sect, whose members were distinguished by their abstinence from drinking wine, planting vineyards, sowing the land, and building houses (Jer 35:6-7); NRSV: “Jonadab”). Jehonadab was partner to Jehu in the mid-ninth century BCE in the bloody overthrow of the Omride dynasty in Samaria and in eradicating the Baal cult introduced by Jezebel (2Kgs 10:15-29).
