Ishvi

Ish´vi

1 A son of Asher who went with Jacob to Egypt (Gen 46:17); he is considered the ancestral head of the clan of the Ishvites (Num 26:44). The name Ishvah, which is given for another son of Asher (Gen 46:17; 1Chr 7:30; but omitted in Num 26:44), probably identifies the same person and is a variant spelling of Ishvi that is repeated in the text. 2 A son of King Saul and brother of Jonathan (1Sam 14:49); he is probably the same person elsewhere called Eshbaal (1Chr 8:33) and Ishbosheth (2Sam 2:8).
