Hodaviah


Hod´uh-vi´uh; Heb., “praise Yah[weh]”

1 A son of Elioenai; a descendant of Judah and the royal lineage through Zerubbabel (1Chr 3:24). 2 A clan leader of the eastern half-tribe of Manasseh (1Chr 5:24). 3 A descendant of Benjamin (1Chr 9:7). 4 A levitical family group (“descendants of Hodaviah”) who returned from the Babylonian captivity with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:40); a corresponding passage reads “sons of Judah” (Ezra 3:9). The family group is also called Hodevah, a variant spelling of the same name (Neh 7:43).
