Adonijah

Ad´uh-ni´juh; Heb., “Yah[weh] is the Lord”

1 The son of David and Haggith and heir apparent to the throne in Jerusalem after the death of Absalom (1Kgs 1-2). Adonijah’s ambitions were frustrated by the secret anointing of Solomon by the priest Zadok, and his subsequent request to marry Abishag, David’s nurse, was the occasion of his execution by Solomon. 2 Two other men in the OT (2Chr 17:8; Neh 10:17).
