Acco

Ak´oh; also Accho, Acre

One of the great port cities of antiquity, located along the eastern Mediterranean. Israelite tribes were unable to conquer Acco (modern Tell el-Fukhkhar), which was under the dominion of the Philistines (Judg 1:31). On his third voyage, Paul visited this city, whose inhabitants had early on converted to Christianity (Acts 21:7; there called Ptolemais).
